On Thursday, 08 August 2024, Honourable Kornelia Shilunga, Deputy Minister of Mines & Energy, officially inaugurated 151 electrified houses in Harambee. This milestone results from a strategic collaboration between Erongo RED and the Ministry of Mines and Energy, aiming to address the low electrification rate in peri-urban communities.
During the inauguration, Honourable Shilunga emphasized the Government’s dedication to improving the quality of life for its citizens, stating that the Ministry recognizes the critical role of electricity in this endeavor. Mrs. Zoe Nambahu, Chairperson of Erongo RED’s Board of Directors, underscored the broader impact of electrification on community empowerment and economic development. Similarly, Mr. Immanuel Hanabeb, CEO of Erongo RED, expressed that the project symbolizes a commitment to bringing “power to the people.” The Ministry granted N$4.522.583 million for the project, of which only N$3.6 million was utilized, leaving N$829,000 for further electrification efforts.
The event was attended by key figures, including the Mayor of Karibib Town Council, local and regional councillors, heads of various institutions, and the media.
