On Wednesday, 04 June 2025 the Electricity Control Board (ECB) in collaboration with Erongo RED in a joint effort to ensure transparency and foster public engagement hosted a public presentation session to discuss the 2025/2026 End-user Tariff Application.
This important event aimed to provide a platform for open dialogue between electricity consumers and key stakeholders in the electricity supply industry. Residents, businesses, local authorities, and members of the media gathered to hear directly from Erongo RED and the ECB, gaining insight into the proposed tariff structure for the upcoming financial year.
Erongo RED, the licensed electricity distributor for the Erongo Region, presented its proposed weighted average tariff increase of 3.6%, aligning closely with NamPower’s recently announced 3.8% increase for the same period.
Prior to the session the Consumer Liaison Committee, which consist of representatives from communities across the Erongo region ,voiced the need for more affordable electricity. The committee also recommended an increase of 0% to 3% for pensioners and 3% to 5% for general residential customers.
In their presentation ECB emphasized that electricity tariffs must be cost-reflective and based on the long-run marginal cost of supply. They also reiterated the importance of designing tariffs that are economically sound, promote fair competition, and ensure a transparent, consistent methodology in the electricity pricing framework.
This public consultation forms part of a broader initiative to strengthen transparency, accountability, and inclusive participation in the electricity sector, ensuring that all voices are heard in the decision-making process.
