On Wednesday, 06 October 2021, Erongo RED inaugurated 60 electrified houses at the Saamstaan Informal Settlement in Usakos.
Speaking at the event, the Governor of Erongo Region, Honourable Neville Andre said ‘‘rural electrification is part of the Government’s economic development policy to expand the electricity supply infrastructure to rural areas to improve the socio-economic conditions of Namibia citizens and to create the necessary incentives for economic development in the targeted areas. We are still committed to expanding electricity service to all corners of our country as documented in the Rural Electrification Master Plan, “said Honourable Andre.
“I have been informed that Erongo RED has been responding to the plight of our people since its inception, 15 years ago. Today, Erongo RED has done it again, by bringing services to the people. Thus, I would like to take this opportunity, to express my heartfelt thanks to the Board, Management and the entire team of Erongo RED for extending their noble gesture to the community of Saamstaan. What we are witnessing today here is remarkable, “the Honourable Governor further said.
Also speaking at the inauguration event was the Chief Executive Officer of Erongo RED, Mr Fessor Mbango who said “in 2013, Erongo RED implemented a Rural Electrification Master Plan. He further said that the company continued to update its plan as needs arise. The main objective of the electrification master plan is to provide a framework for Erongo RED to coordinate all rural and peri-urban electrification and network extension projects. This plan also ensures that our electrification projects are aligned to the National Development Goals as stipulated in NDP4, Harambee Prosperity Plan 1 (HPP1) and Harambee Prosperity Plan 2 (HPP2)”.
Mbango also said that the engineers are busy with the planning and designing for other localities within our region namely; Upukos (60 houses) in Karibib Rural constituency, Corner Shop (35 houses) in Karibib Rural constituency and Topnaar (119 houses) in Walvis Bay Rural constituency. These localities will be considered for electrification once funds have been secured,” further said Mbango.
